Direct Energy is one of North America's largest energy and energy-related services providers. We provide choice and support in managing energy use and costs through our portfolio of innovative products and services.

Our businesses range from natural gas production and power generation, to energy pricing and protection plans, together with a full line of energy efficiency and building comfort services.

We service over 6 million customer relationships - residential, commercial, industrial, public institution, government, and national account customers - in 10 Canadian provinces and 46 US states, as well as the District of Columbia.

We own and operate 4,550 natural gas wells in Alberta and have three gas-fired power plants and power purchase agreements totalling 813MW of wind power in Texas.

We operate under four lines of business:

  • Direct Energy Residential – includes sales of natural gas and electricity to residential customers; in Texas, we also operate under the CPL Retail Energy and WTU Retail Energy brands
  • Direct Energy Business – includes energy sales to commercial customers
  • Direct Energy Services – includes HVAC (household ventilation and air conditioning), plumbing, home improvements, water heater, electrical appliance services, building automation, facility maintenance and energy management consulting services; in the US, this division also operates under Airtron and other brands
  • Direct Energy Upstream & Trading – includes natural gas production, power generation, wind power purchase agreements, midstream gas storage and transportation, commodity procurement and proprietary trading

    Chris Weston – Managing Director, North America

    Chris Weston was appointed to the Board in July 2009. He was Managing Director, British Gas Services from June 2005. Prior to this, he was Managing Director, British Gas Business from January 2002, having joined Centrica in November 2001, following the acquisition of One Tel where he was the Managing Director of Europe. Previously, he spent seven years in the army with the Royal Artillery.
