How do you ensure that there is a consistent message about Centrica and our products? What should that message be?

To be the leading integrated energy company in our chosen markets Centrica must deliver the right product propositions and use the right communication channels to maximise our brand and generate profitable growth. Your career in Marketing will consist of a variety of placements across our business serving customers that vary from domestic consumers to some of the largest businesses in the UK. From advertising and brand management through to customer insight and analysis and online activity you will have an opportunity to experience the full breadth of the marketing profession.

Do you have what it takes to shape Centrica’s communications in all markets?

There are times when marketing is glamorous, there are many other times when it’s about creating practical, high quality solutions under challenging circumstances. You’ll need to be able to perform at your best in all situations, using your first class communication skills to understand the needs of the business, keep key stakeholders informed and deliver the desired message to a high standard and on time.

You’ve probably already gained some marketing experience, whether formal or informal, because it’s in your blood. To apply it within Centrica, you’ll need to take an active interest in all parts of the company, understanding the goals and strategies that make them tick. It’s then up to you to add your practical creativity to the ideas and requirements the business sends your way.

Placement 1

Core skills

You'll start in a frontline customer-facing role in one of our contact centres. You’ll take on the role of customer service agent for about 2-3 months, developing customer focus by understanding the importance of delivering excellent service. You’ll quickly appreciate that our customers are at the heart of everything we do and that the skills you learn will be the building blocks for your career at Centrica.

You’ll aim to cover these core management skills in your first placement:

  • Relationship management

  • Influencing skills

With frontline experience under your belt you’ll continue your placement in a role which is in line with your chosen stream. You’ll develop your core skills within this area so that you and the talent board overseeing your development will be able to identify a more specific route which you could take in your career in placements 2 & 3. Throughout the programme, you'll be working on real, business critical projects across our business.
